Fractora is the most advanced method available of resurfacing the skin; stimulating the dermis to produce collagen and elastin and resulting in improvements to skin tone, texture and radiance. Fractora delivers improvements for the broadest range of symptoms of ageing skin, all with one treatment
Fractora targets fine or deep wrinkles, texture, acne scars, or discoloured red and brown skin tone to produce skin that looks firmer, healthier and more supple.
Caer Aesthetics brings you the first treatment of its kind in Scotland. Only available through CAER with Dr Nicola Willis in Ayrshire, Dr Judy Todd in Glasgow and with CAER at BMI Carrick Glen Hospital

Ageing and your thinning skin
As we age our skin changes in predictable ways: It loses volume, elasticity and becomes thinner and drier. With less elasticity in the skin, the effects of gravity become more obvious. These changes can be very effectively treated in several ways:
- Muscle relaxing injections treat wrinkles that have been caused by over-use of underlying muscles (frowning, wrinkling your forehead);
- Dermal fillers restore volume (between the brows, marionette lines);
- Chemical peels rejuvenate the more superficial layers of the skin
- Active ingredients in scientifically proven skin-care products improve skin texture and hydration and protect against external damage.
Fractora is unique in that it targets the problem of loss of elasticity and thinning of the dermis, the deep layer of the skin.
While there are other resurfacing options available, most help to improve one or two symptoms of ageing skin. Fractora delivers improvements for the broadest range of symptoms of ageing skin, all with one treatment.
How does Fractora Work?
Fractora provides an advanced solution, using radiofrequency (RF) energy to stimulate the skin’s production of elastin and collagen.
Fractora uses CAER’s Bodytite platform to produce controlled RF energy via a small probe with 60 micro needles held gently against your skin.
Fractora works by combining ablation (precise removal of surface cells) with micro punctures. The result is not dissimilar to that of combining the benefits of two popular skin treatments: laser resurfacing (which stimulates skin renewal by precisely removing upper layers of skin) and dermal rolling (tiny punctures in the skin stimulate elastin and collagen growth through the healing process).
How skin regenerating works
It has been noticed for a long time by surgeons and patients alike that when skin is damaged in any way by, say, burns, or surgery, the resulting healed skin looks younger, fresher and firmer. Indeed the healed tissue has more collagen and elastin than the surrounding area. A variety of methods have been used to simulate this effect, the main aim being to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the dermis IN A CONTROLLED WAY.
A carefully controlled amount of RF energy is delivered to the dermis through the Fractora handpiece. The dermis in between the needles is only gently stimulated and is responsible for the healing with increased collagen and elastin production over the following weeks. Collagen production plumps out the skin naturally, the dermis regains volume and the overlying skin looks fresher with fewer wrinkles.
What can Fractora treat?
Fractora can treat superficial or medium depth wrinkles, looseness and sagging skin and is also excellent for acne scarring and stretch marks. It is very effective in the treatment of the difficult problem of peri-oral lines. Fractora is also effective in improving the evenness of skin tone, reducing red and brown marks.
The most common areas of treatment are the cheeks, smile lines, forehead, mouth, neck and eyelids
Is Fractora safe?
RF energy has been used safely in medicine for over 60 years, but it is only recently that the possibilities for its use in aesthetic medicine have been harnessed. Like many technologies in medicine, it can take a while for the possibilities for aesthetic medicine to filter through. (Botox, for example was used for years to treat muscle spasm long before it was used for cosmetic purposes.)
At CAER, Fractora is delivered by Aesthetic Doctors who are Consultant Anaesthetists. Treatment is safe and pain is managed using local anaesthetics. We always start off with low energy pulses and increase slowly so, this, combined with the fact that this is always done by a Consultant doctor, makes it extremely safe.
Fractora is safer than CO2 resurfacing in darker skins because it leaves areas of skin in between the probe points to heal (unlike CO2 laser which has more of a "blanket" coverage).
Does it hurt?
You are given a local anaesthetic for this procedure in the form of a topical cream which is left on for 30 minutes. This can also be combined with a dental block if needed. It isn't painful but you will feel a "pulse" of energy with each area treated. Fractora is administered by Aesthetic doctors who are consultant anaesthetists, highly skilled in safely managing pain sensitivity.
What will I look like after Fractora treatment?
Your skin will look red and a little swollen. This is normal and, indeed, desired as it indicates effective treatment. You can expect to see micro scabs a few days after the treatment and slight redness for up to 1-2 weeks.
How many times do I need the treatment?
On average 3 treatments per area is recommended, spaced 3-5 weeks apart. The improvement in your skin will continue over the ensuing 6 months or so. The skin then continues to age as it would normally. Not faster or more slowly! The treatment can be repeated as necessary the next year or two years later as required.
Do I need any special creams after the treatment?
We apply Akademikliniken Pure Recovery Cream after each treatment. We recommend continued daily use of this cream for at least four to six weeks following treatment.
Pure Recovery Creme has been developed by Akademikliniken Plastic Surgery institute in Sweden as an advanced treatment crème for use following surgery, to encourage healing and help to reduce recovery time. Its active ingredients soothe redness, irritation and damage and promote renewal of the skin. These ingredients have been clinically shown to improve micro circulation of the skin. Usage results in improved texture, tone and hydration of the skin. (£74.50 from your CAER doctor)
It is also recommended that a good sun crème is used. CAER recommends Akademikliniken Optimal Sense SPF25, a silky emulsion which is easily absorbed. It protects the skin and helps to maintain good moisture levels in the skin. (£38.50 from your Caer doctor)
Can I put make-up on after treatment?
Make-up can be applied 1 to 2 days after the treatment.
Can I use Fractora in combination with other treatments?
Fractora can be used in the same treatment session, or a few days after other treatments, based on your Aesthetic Doctor's discretion.
